Can my child bring a snack?
Yes. We encourage healthy snacks and a water bottle.
What are the school hours at Duncan Creek?
The school hours are from 8:50a.m. - 3:20 p.m. The earliest students may arrive is 8:20. Car riders will be dismissed at 3:15 p.m. Bus call will begin at 3:20 p.m. Expect your child's bus to drop them off a little late during the first week of school.
What do I do if my child has to miss a day of school?
If your child is sick, please send me a written note. (Emailed excuses are not accepted this year.) Absences will be excused for illness when accompanied by a note. Your child will make up his or her work in class or at home depending on the nature of the assignments. Absences for vacation are not excused.
What are the hours for tardies and early check-outs?
Students arriving after 8:50 are tardy. A parent will then have to sign the child in at the front office. If you bring your child to school after 8:50, you must go with them to the office. Students are considered absent if they check-out (and do not return) before 12:10, or if they check-in after 12:10. Students are not allowed to check out after 3:00. This is strictly enforced.
What if my child wants to ride the bus home with a friend?
Transportation changes require a written note. Students must present the note to me first thing in the morning to receive their official bus pass. Only students with official bus passes will be allowed to board a different bus. Be sure the note includes your phone number as well as the address your child will be getting off at.
What about homework?
Your child will have homework almost every day except Fridays. It must be returned the next day unless you are told otherwise. I suggest you help your child learn the routine of nightly homework by completing a little bit each day. Fourth graders should be completing up to forty minutes of homework a night - no more. If homework is taking more than 40 minutes please let me know.
Homework is important for many reasons: (1) It teaches responsibility and time management. This is an invaluable skill that must be taught, modeled, and practiced. (2) It helps your child practice skills that were introduced at school. (3) It allows parents to keep up with what is being taught in class.
Yes. We encourage healthy snacks and a water bottle.
